Top 5 Favorite (Non-Makeup) e.l.f. Products

Hello everyone!  If you are an e.l.f. lover, like me, than you know that e.l.f. offers some products that are not considered makeup.  I have decided to do a post on my favorite non-makeup items that e.l.f. offers. I really like all of the products that I am going to mention and I am curious to know your thoughts if you have tried any of them.

1. Essential Nail Polish- $2

The Essential Nail Polish has so many colors to choose from!  I have tried four of the colors, and not only are the colors beautiful but the formula is easy to work with.  These last just as long, on my nail, as my other more expensive nail polishes do.  They are also free of Toluene, Formaldehyde, and Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP).  My favorite color is Dark Navy.

2. Brush Shampoo- $3

This brush cleaner works great at cleaning the e.l.f. Studio Brushes, as well as any other makeup brushes that you may have.  I will admit, I am not the best at cleaning my brushes, however, this cleaner gets them clean every time.  It foams up nicely and gets every trace of makeup off your brushes.

3. Studio Makeup Mist and Set- $3

This is truly a great, affordable, makeup setting spray.  It will keep your makeup from sliding off your face, and it will take the dreaded "powdery" look away from makeup.  This has been said to be a dupe for Mac's Fix +.

4. Studio Brushes- $3

The Studio Makeup brushes are all great quality.  They are all extremely soft, as well as reasonably priced.  I especially love the powder brush, the concealer brush, and large stipple brush.  You can get their 11 piece set for only $30, an even better deal!

5. Studio Daily Moisture Stick- $6

This Daily Moisture Stick can be used on elbows, cuticles, lips, the face, and under the eyes.  After I apply my under eye makeup, it can sometimes look dry or cakey.  To remedy this issue, I get a little of the Daily Moisture Stick on my finger and dab it on the areas that look dry.  Instantly, the area looks refreshed and moisturized.  After seeing Emily Noel's use of this stick, I fell in love.  Watch her video here.

MAC Crème d'Nude vs. e.l.f. Natural Nymph . . . Dupe?

Hi all!  Who doesn't love a nude lip?
I have seen a lot of blog posts that claim that MAC's Crème d'Nude does indeed have a dupe.  This dupe is said to be e.l.f.'s Natural Nymph.

While I will admit that the colors are very similar, they are not a perfect match, and the formulas are completely different!  Due to the fact that MAC's Crème d'Nude is a Cremesheen it is very moisturizing and, indicative of the name, has a sheen when on the lips.  e.l.f.'s Natural Nymph is more matte and does not feel moisturizing to me.

However, if you do not want to shell out the $16 for the MAC, than the e.l.f. is a good option at only $3.  You can always put a gloss or clear lip balm over the e.l.f. to make it feel more moisturizing.

Have you tried either of these? What were your thoughts?

e.l.f. Essential Lipstick Swatches

Hello all!  It is no secret that I like e.l.f.  One product that I really like are the Essential Lipsticks.  They have so many colors to choose from and they are all extremely pigmented, as well as moisturizing . . . and they are only $1!  What's not to like?  So, I have decided to swatch them for you so you can get a better idea of the colors that are offered.  I do not have all of the colors, but I have most of them.  The swatches are in no particular order. I hope you enjoy!

Until Next Time,

-Kaitlin

Top 10 Favorite e.l.f. Products

e.l.f. (Eyes, Lips, Face) Cosmetics is one of my favorite makeup brands, not only because they have great products, but also because they are one of the most affordable makeup lines.  You can find a limited, but good, selections of e.l.f. products at your local Target, Meijer, and K-Mart.  The full product line is available on eyeslipsface.com. e.l.f. have three varying product lines, their Mineral Line, where most products are $6, their Studio Line, where most products are $3, and their Essential Lines where most products are $1 or $2.

Most of the products that I've listed below are a staple in my makeup collection and I use many of them daily. You can also find coupon codes to use on their website, sometimes you can even find ones for 50% off your entire purchase!  This make an already affordable makeup line even more affordable!  Many of these products are also dupes for more expensive makeup items.  Why splurge when you can get the same effect with a very affordable option?

1. Studio Lip Exfoliator- $3

This is a great lip exfoliator.  I love this "lipstick" format compared to an exfoliator in a pot, it is much less messy!  It smells like sugar!

2. Studio Eyebrow Kit in Medium- $3

This eyebrow kit is one of my everyday makeup item.  It comes with a colored gel and a lighter powder, used to set the gel.  It is perfect for filling in sparse areas!

3. Studio Blush in Candid Coral- $3 (Dupe for Benefit Coralista- $28)

I love all of the Studio blushes.  They are all extremely pigmented and a little bit goes a long way!  There are a few matte blushes but most of them have a slight shimmer.  Candid Coral is one of my favorite colors, as it complements my pale skin tone really well.

4. Studio Golden Bronzer- $3 (Dupe for Diorskin Shimmer Star- $45)
The Studio Golden Bronzer is fantastic.  You can swipe you brush across all four colors to get a bronze glow, or you can use the individual colors for eye shadow, etc.  I like to use the lightest color as a cheek highlight.

5. Studio Contouring Blush and Bronzer Powder in St. Lucia- #3 (dupe for NARS Blush/Bronzer Duo in Orgasm/Laguna- $41)

The colors in the Contouring Blush and Bronzer Powder are both extremely pigmented.  The blush color is peachy and the bronzer is slightly dark, however, I use a tiny bit to warm up my complexion.  The blush, as well as the bronzer, have a slight shimmer in the pan, but is not too noticeable on the skin.

6. Essential Lip Balm Tint in Nude- $2
This has quickly become one of my favorite things to put on my lips.  The nude color is the "perfect" nude for me, it doesn't make my lips look like I've put concealer on them and it is not too dark.  It is very moisturizing and it has good color payoff for something that feels like a balm.

7. Essential Liquid Eyeliner in Black- $1
This eyeliner is extremely black and the perfect consistency.  The brush makes it very easy to work with.  You Can't go wrong with it, especially since it is only $1!

8. Mineral Eyeshadow Primer in Sheer- $3
This eye shadow primer is a great alternative to more expensive primers.  It keeps my eye shadow on all day and keeps it from creasing.
9. Essential Lipstick- $1
This lipstick has awesome color payoff for only costing $1, and it is not overly drying.  If you want to try out different lipstick colors, this is a great option.  You can see my swatches of the colors here.

10. Studio HD Powder in Translucent- $6 (dupe for Make Up For Ever Microfinish Powder $34)
This is a great option for setting foundation.  I have both, the e.l.f. HD Powder and the M.U.F.E. poder, and I cannot tell the difference between the two.  Also, with the e.l.f. HD Powder, you get so much more product.  8g to be exact.

I really hope this post has my readers wanting to check out e.l.f.  If you already have, what are you favorite e.l.f. products?  If you are interested in more e.l.f. dupes, check out Christine Mikesell's list here.

Affordable Day Time Drugstore Skin Care Routine for Dry or Acne Prone Skin

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a great weekend! It is finally warming up here and I could not be more excited.

Most of you know that I am a mommy to a seven month old and a full time college student.  So, finding affordable skin care products that I actually like using, as well as having a fast routine, is a must.  Sometimes, I only have 10 minutes to get ready and walk out the door.

Let me tell you a little about my skin.  In the winter, I have extremely dry skin with dry patches.  In fact, if I am going to wear makeup, I need to exfoliate daily.  Before you gasp in horror at the thought of this, this is a necessity for me.  Everyone needs to find what works best for them.  In the summer months, my skin leans more towards the normal end of the spectrum, however, I still get dry patches.  Even though I have dry skin, I am unfortunately acne prone as well.  I get the best of both worlds . . . yay!

I will list what has been working for me now that it is not so deathly freezing outside. Keep in mind, that what works for me, may not work for everyone and everyone needs to find what works best for them.  I cannot stress this enough!

Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert.  Through trial and error I have found what works for me, at this time.

If you want to know what products I have currently been using, and liking, please read on!

Step 1:  Exfoliate

As I previously mentioned, exfoliating is a must for me and I do this daily.  I am currently loving the Blemish & Blackhead Control Apricot Scrub by St. Ives.  This tub can last me up to six months, making it extremely economical!  I love how the granules are bigger and I feel like this scrub really sloughs off the dead skin, leaving a beautiful, soft canvas for applying makeup.

This retails for around $6 for 10oz of product, and can be found at any drugstore.

Step 2:  Cleanse

Do not waste money on cleanser.  High end cleansers  can be very expensive.  If you spend a lot of money on cleanser, you are literally washing your money down the drain. After all, cleanser does not stay on your face. I have really been liking the Purpose Gentle Cleansing Face Wash.  It foams up nicely, removes my makeup, does not leave a "tight" feeling, does not cause breakouts, and does not dry out my face.  What more can I ask for?

You can pick up a 6oz bottle for around $5 and this can also be found at drugstores.

Step 3: Tone

The affordable toner that I have been reaching for is Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner.  I must warn you, this has a very strong smell, which reminds me of vodka.  However, if you can get past the smell, the product is wonderful!  This does a great job at giving my face the "extra clean" feeling and balancing out my skin, without drying it out.

This can be found at drugstores for around $5 for 16oz.

Step 4: Moisturize

I am sure many of you have heard about coconut oil.  But, did you know about all of the great benefits that this natural (and yummy) oil has?  Besides the obvious fact that you can eat it, which will help with your digestive tract, you can use it for a hair mask, to shave with, or to moisturize.  Like I mentioned, I have very dry, acne prone, skin.  I have tried countless eye creams and facial moisturizers, but I have not found any that work as well as this does for the price.  With that being said, I have been using this as my eye cream and my facial moisturizer.  Before you say, "you put what on your face?" or "why put oil on acne prone skin?" . . . let me tell you.  Coconut oil has anti aging properties, removes impurities, is an anti-inflammatory (helps with acne), is a natural sun protectant, a little bit goes a long way, and works great for my skin.

When using coconut oil you may break out at first.  This is the coconut oil purging your skin (search coconut oil skin detox to learn more.)  After using this for about a week, I had about three whiteheads pop up on my chin, but they were gone within a couple of days.  I have not had any more breakouts caused by coconut oil.

If you are going to try coconut oil as a moisturizer, make sure that it is extra virgin, unrefined, and if you can find it, organic.  Do not put refined coconut oil on your face.

You can find coconut oil in grocery stores or in health food stores.  I picked mine up at The Vitamin Shoppe for around $9 and I got 15oz.

Step 5: Protect from Sun Exposure

For days when I am going to be in the sun for a period of time, when I don't wear a makeup that has an SPF, or I just need extra moisture, I like to use Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Sunscreen Face Lotion with SPF 30.  It soaks into the skin really well, is oil free, and leaves a semi matte finish, meaning you will not get the grease face that some SPFs give you.   This also wears beautifully under makeup.  The smell is as good as all of the other Hawaiian Tropic products.  However, I am not sure if this gives a white cast in photos or not.  I'll be sure to update when I know.

I found mine at Meijer, but it is also carried at Target for around $8 for 1.7oz.

I love reading about other people's skin care routines and I hope that you enjoyed reading this!

If any of you have skin like mine and want to make a suggestion, let me know! Also, if you have used any of the products that I listed, let me know what you thought about them!

Until Next Time,

-Kaitlin
